He loves me, he loves me not
I've got Video Hits on in the background and I just heard the latest SMS gimmick ad. Text CHEAT, your name and your lover's name to some number and it'll reply with whether your partner is cheating on you or not.
Seriously - what the hell? How can this even be legal? I'm just waiting for the first domestic violence case to use this as a defence.
"But your honour the SMS said the bitch was cheating on me!"
Maybe it always says no?
i think i made that comment to adam at some stage when they first started showing it. exactly! some dickhead will take it literally and… well it wont be pretty.
i don’t get how it’s legal either. totally wrong.
The crazy part is that they advertise it during a show aimed at teenagers.
I thought about that Hale, but surely you can’t advertise something your can’t actually sell. Though I guess it works both ways - they have the same kind of thing where you send two names and it’ll tell you how compatible you are.
Maybe it’s based on numerology or something that they can “prove” (in the sense that there’s a formula, not that there’s a guaranteed truth).
Adam: That’s the sensible part. Anyone older wouldn’t fall for it.
Matt: Late night sex chat lines advertise talking to a hot girl, but it won’t be her on the phone if you call. I expect this falls into the same category of “telephone services” as phone sex, and as such, does not have to prove anything to remain in business.
It’s probably like astrology in the paper: The answer will be so generic that they won’t actually answer anything.
Hamish and Andy did this on air the other day, texting in to see if Megan Gale is cheating on Andy. It comes back as a % chance of cheating, so it’s total and utter bullshit that can’t be proven - or disproven :)
I’m sure you can complain to the Advertising board
It’s not such a big deal, but it amazes me that they can blatantly rip off stupid people like this.
Stupid people do stupid things, so if you fall for crap like this then you deserve to be ripped off.
