Soundwave is born

The latest addition to The Frontier Group has been deployed - soundwave.thefrontiergroup.net.au.

Soundwave will be taking over the role of our dedicated Harmony Backup server, as wheeljack was running low on disk space and has other things to worry about (monitoring, secondary DNS).

Soundwave has a RAID 5 array providing 750GB of accessible storage (three times what wheeljack has at present), with a hot-spare ready to jump in if anything goes pear-shaped. He also has a dual-core 3.4 GHz processor, so he’s fairly good with numbers.

Sorry Tully, you’re right I should be pimping you. How’s this… the RAID is about 30x faster than it was on wheeljack. That either means your servers are 30x faster (ish) or there’s something wrong with wheeljack :|

Either way, it doesn’t make much difference. The new machine blazes along and I’m really happy with it.

Heh, I bought a hard drive from Nintek earlier this year for work. Reasonable prices, quick service. Enough of a plug? ;-)
