Final landing of the Tomcat

F-14Those of you that know me will be aware of my love of "Top Gun".

It appears that the US Navy is decommisioning their fleet of F-14 Tomcats in preparation for the transition to Super Hornets. The final active duty carrier landing occured on February 8th.

Now, time to start scouring eBay :)

“I don’t think there is anything better than a Tomcat, but it’s probably a good time for it to go away,” said Senior Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate (AW) Gene Casterlin, VF-31. “The Navy is getting smaller and more efficient, and it will only get harder to maintain the Tomcat. But no matter what, the Tomcat is the sexiest airplane in the sky.”

… can I get an “Amen”!

Eventually they wont need planes, just better guided long range nukes/missiles.
